Welcoming Our Interim Chief Commissioner, Liz Kelly-Campanale

I am honored to accept the board’s appointment as Interim Chief Commissioner.

I want to start off by thanking outgoing Chief Shane Heroux for the remarkable level of time and energy he has poured into Outdoor Service Guides over the last nine months, as well as his commitment to Inclusive Scouting. There has been a great deal of work done at the National level during his tenure, much of it focused around reaffirming and strengthening our commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives. My primary goal in stepping into the role of Interim Chief Commissioner is to continue that work, in addition to laying the groundwork for a strong focus on growth and member retention going into 2025.

This is a crucial time for our organization, and for the Inclusive Scouting movement generally. Many people in our country, especially those in marginalized communities, are feeling scared and uncertain about the future. Now, more than ever, is the time to step up and be a safe and welcoming place for everyone.

To me, that means elevating the voices of those who don’t always feel comfortable speaking up. It means recognizing bias and calling it out, both internally and when we see it in others. It means acknowledging when we make mistakes and taking that as an opportunity to learn, grow, and do better in the future.

I believe strongly in the mission of Outdoor Service Guides, and I look forward to working with all of you to grow our organization and continue to build our Scouting community.
