Outdoor Service Guides has updated our Mission Statement in the wake of our name change. We believe this new statement better reflects who we are, and who we want to be. Having an accurate Mission Statement is essential to having a well run organization. A mission statement helps direct all of us to what our mutual goals are. This new mission statement, will be our guiding light. Following these tenants, along with the Scout Law, will guide us into the future.
Outdoor Service Guides Mission Statement
To support scouting and guiding in an environment of mutual respect and cooperation by:
- Creating a positive learning environment, within the context of democratic participation and social justice, to share the practices, values, and traditions of the Scout Law.
- Celebrating diversity in all its forms.
- Promoting Scouting for Everyone: locally, nationally and globally.
What Do these Mean?
Creating a positive learning environment, within the context of democratic participation and social justice, to share the practices, values, and traditions of the Scout Law.
This is a mouth full. But basically, we mean that we want to have an environment where everyone has a voice and gets to participate in scouting where they are encouraged and their differences embraced. We believe that everyone should have human rights. All human rights. And part of scouting is working towards that goal of making sure everyone has human rights and no one is held back, harmed, bullied or denied their rights because of who they are.
The second part of this statement says that we want to share the practices, values and traditions of the Scout Law. What is the Scout Law? It is a 10 point list of things we do while scouting. It guides us in how to make good choices. If you have questions about the Scout Law and what it means, this is a great discussion to have with our leaders.
The Scout Law
- A scout’s honor is to be trusted.
- A scout is loyal.
- A scout’s duty is to be useful and help others.
- A scout is a friend to all and a sibling to every other scout, no matter to what class, country, or creed the other may belong. A scout is courteous.
- A scout is kind to animals.
- A scout obeys orders.
- A scout smiles and whistles under all difficulties.
- A scout is thrifty.
- A scout is clean in thought, word and deed.
Celebrating diversity in all its forms.
In Outdoor Service Guides we embrace having scouts who are all races and religions, all genders, LGBTQ+, neurodiverse and differently abled. We not only want them to scout with us, but we believe that our differences make us better. We believe that diversity in the human experience is beautiful. Our scout membership is diverse and beautiful too.
Promoting Scouting for Everyone: locally, nationally and globally.
We are working to create local groups and support Lone Scouts where they live. Our volunteers create multiple-group events that invite scouts from across the country to attend a moot or hullaballoo that promote scouting nationally, together. We are members of WFIS, the World Federation of Independent Scouting. Our scouts have attended Jamborees with groups from around the world that are members of WFIS. We look forward to scouting together with all our siblings in scouting.
Who Created This?
As part of our renaming and rebranding process Outdoor Service Guides Headquarters staff, Regional Commissioners and various committee members met during the spring of 2021.

To the best of this writer’s knowledge, OSG has no presence in Ohio. If that is incorrect, will some please explain the situation to me.
May I have at least one volunteer in this effort?
